June 25, 2024Memories from Goris
Goris, located in the south of Armenia, in the heart of Syunik province, is a place where beautiful nature and historical sites intertwine. My visit to Goris became an unforgettable experience, full of adventure, admiration and warm hospitality.
The road to Goris
The road from Yerevan to Goris was extraordinary in itself. Goris is located about 250 km south of Yerevan, and the road passes through beautiful views of the Ararat Valley, and then rises into the boundless nature of the Syunik Highlands. Looking at every step of the way, I admired the beautiful nature that surrounded us.
Wonders of Nature
Goris is famous for its wonderful natural scenery and cave dwellings. The city is surrounded by high mountains and rocky valleys that stretch into the distance. On the first day, I visited a forest called the “Stone Forest” a place where stone pillars with unique shapes stand. These stone pillars resemble human figures and seem to be huge stone shadows.
Tatev Monastery and the “Wings of Tatev”
Not far from Goris is the Tatev Monastery, which is one of the most famous historical and spiritual sites in Armenia. To reach Tatev, we used the cable car called “Wings of Tatev”, which is considered the longest suspended cable car in the world. Looking out from the cable car, the view of the Vorotan Gorge opened up, which completed the charm of my visit. Tatev Monastery stands on the edge of an abyss and is impressive with its medieval architecture and spiritual atmosphere.
Cave dwellings of Goris
Goris is also famous for its cave dwellings, where people lived in the past. I visited some of these caves, which have now been turned into museums and reveal the daily life of ancient Armenians. Cave dwellings the breath of the past was felt inside, and a new story was revealed around every corner.
The hospitality of the locals
During my visit, I had the opportunity to get to know the locals, who gave me unforgettable memories with their hospitality and warmth. Together we prepared traditional Armenian dishes such as khashlama, barbecue, and of course, delicious gata. Thanks to their hospitality, my journey became not only full of beautiful views, but also full of open-hearted people.
Farewell to Goris
When the time came to say goodbye to Goris, I felt great regret, but also infinite gratitude for everything I saw and experienced. Goris is a place where the past and the present are intertwined, where nature and history are combined. My memories of Goris will be in my heart forever and I hope to return again one day.
Goris became a treasure trove of memories for me that I will keep in my heart. The place is where you can enjoy the beautiful nature of Armenia, learn about the rich history and culture, and experience the warm hospitality of the Armenian people. [...]

July 4, 2023When I step out of the car and look out at the mountains surrounding the Geghard Monastery, it feels like I’ve entered another world, a place where time stands still. The air is crisp, carrying with it the scent of ancient stone and the whispers of centuries past. The monastery itself seems to be carved out of the rock, its gray walls blending seamlessly with the rugged cliffs that cradle it. It’s as if nature itself has embraced this sacred place, protecting it from the outside world. Walking through the narrow entrance, I’m struck by the coolness inside, which contrasts starkly with the heat of the sun outside. The silence is almost tangible, wrapping me like a comforting blanket. My every step echoes softly, echoing through the stone corridors. The light is dim, filtering through the narrow windows above, casting long shadows that dance on the walls. It is as if the stones themselves are alive, whispering stories of faith, devotion, and history. I stop before a beautifully carved khachkar, its intricate cross-stitching softly shimmering in the dim light. The craftsmanship is stunning, every detail carefully crafted by hands who lived centuries ago. I can almost feel their presence, their devotion and faith etched into every line and curve. It is humbling to stand here, in a place that has seen so much, where prayers have been heard for hundreds of years. As I move deeper into the monastery, the air becomes cooler and the sense of peace grows stronger. The walls seem to breathe, holding within them the secrets of those who seek solace here. I can’t help but close my eyes for a moment, letting the peace seep into my soul. There is something deeply spiritual about this place, something that transcends words. When I finally step back outside, the mountains seem even more majestic, their peaks reaching up to the sky as if in prayer. The sun is setting, casting golden rays across the landscape. I take a deep breath, feeling a connection not just to this place, but to the history, the people, and the land itself. Geghard is not just a monastery, it is a living testament to faith, perseverance, and the beauty of the human spirit.
And as I leave, I know that a part of me will forever remain here, nestled among these ancient stones, in the heart of Armenia.
